ACQUIRING A GOLDEN RETRIEVER
Are they a serious hobby breeder who is concerned about preserving the Golden Retriever breed or is the breeder trying to make a business from selling puppies?
A gentleman's gun dog, Golden Retriever's affable, friendly nature makes them an ideal match for many families. However, as a working breed they can be energetic when young and may not be a good match for someone looking for a low energy companion.
The Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA) currently recommends that the sire and dam of a litter be tested for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, heart issues and eye abnormalities, at a minimum. Most breeders will also do DNA testing.
